You’ve seen them. Those breathtaking 3D/4D ultrasound photos on a friend’s social media—the ones where you can really see the baby’s nose, their smile, their chubby cheeks.

But how do you get that "perfect shot"? The secret is all about timing.

Go too early (before 26 weeks), and your baby is still wonderfully active, but they haven't developed that adorable baby fat yet.

Go too late (after 33 weeks), and your baby is definitely chubbier! But they are also bigger and more squished, making it much harder to get a clear view of their face (it might be hidden by feet or the placenta!).

Ask any experienced ultrasound tech, and they’ll tell you the "Magic Window" is almost always between 27 and 32 weeks.

Why then?

It’s the perfect sweet spot. Your baby has developed those pinch-able cheeks but still has enough amniotic fluid and space to move, giving the tech the best chance to capture those unbelievable, clear images.

Of course, if you're just dying to know the gender, many studios offer scans as early as 15 weeks. You won't get the detailed face shots, but seeing your entire baby flip and wave is a different kind of magic!
